Day 20 - Savannah, GA

Today was our longest drive yet – 7 ½ hours to Savannah. Nobody really seemed to mind except after 3 hrs the driver mentioned he was tired. He probably won’t admit it, but he seems to be most at ease behind the wheel.

Something is wrong with the car again. At the Florida junction that would take us south to Disneyworld, for some reason the car went north! This is a definite first for the Webber family! But we got our Disney fix in Savannah, where Walt was inspired to design the Haunted Mansion.

We’re staying for 2 nights at Skidaway Island State Park – a 15 minute drive to historic Savannah. The entire campground is a canopy of trees, all covered in Spanish moss – a very pretty location! The sites are huge with electricity and water.

We set up camp and then leave for town. The setting for dinner was unbeatable. We ate outside at Vinnie Van GoGo Pizzeria at the edge of a square in an area called City Market. And best of all, they have Sierra Nevada!

Next we went on a ghost walking tour. It started at the city’s small Colonial Cemetery, and showed us Savannah’s highlights. As it turns out, history mixed with ghost stories was a good way to keep the kids’ attention!

Snapshot of reality: This pix is funny, esp. if you’re wondering what’s happening “behind the scenes”. Kate is bothering Christopher, who is hitting her (and about to say “no I’m not”. Jeremy is already bored, again, because he’s not at home texting. And Greg is focused on reading his outbackers forum.
